Non-government organisation VERITAS was established in late 1993 by citizens of the then Republic of Serbian Krajina - RSK (former United Nations Protected Area - UNPA).

Prior to the exile of
Krajina population in August 1995, the organization was headquartered in Knin. Afterwards it moved to Belgrade.

 

The following are VERITAS' aims and objectives:

  • Collecting documents pertinent to the pre-war, war and post-war property and sufferings of Serbs on the territory of the then Republic of Serbian Krayina and of all citizens of the Republic of Croatia;
  • To exhibit, publish, and publicize findings of these document searches to the public;
  • To prepapre and disseminate evidence to national and international institutions that potrays a different "truth" regarding events on the territory of the former Socialist Republic of Croatia, and to initiate court proceedings against perpetrators of crimes committed against humanity and the international law;
  • To unearth information pertinent to destinies of all Krayina residents who failed to flee Krayina in May and August 1995 and who are either dead or alive;
  • To cooperate with the Commissions for the exchange of prisoners of war and the hand over of bodies, of those killed on either side of the conflict, and to work with international humanitarian organisations, in order to release all prisoners of war and handover the bodies of those killed to their families as soon as possible;
  • To provide legal aid to former Krayina residents, including compensation for physical and emotional suffering and the damaged and destroyed property.
